Where is ASTOP?

 

The Asociación Salvemos las Tortugas de Parismina is in the village of Barra del Parismina on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. It is approximately 40 km south of Tortuguero and 40 km north of Limon.

 

The village has a population of approximately 400 people. Who live in modest homes and work on local farms, lodges, and in the community of Parismina. ASTOP employs as many as 10 patrol guides and hatchery guards. A direct source of income for as many as 25 additional families through the homestay program. Indirectly, the local stores (known as Pulperias), cafes (referred to as Sodas), and artisans are all supported by the project because volunteers and tourists purchase products and services from these businesses.
